- 1 ½ cups (190g) all-purpose flour
- ½ cup (50g) cocoa powder
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- ½ teaspoon baking soda
- ¼ teaspoon salt
- ¾ cup (150g) granulated sugar
- ½ cup (100g) brown sugar
- ½ cup (120ml) vegetable oil
- 2 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Zest of 1 large orange
- ½ cup (120ml) freshly squeezed orange juice
- ½ cup (120ml) buttermilk
For the Chocolate Orange Ganache:
- ½ cup (120ml) heavy cream
- ¾ cup (130g) dark chocolate, chopped
- 1 tablespoon orange zest
For Garnish:
- Orange slices or candied orange peel
- Chocolate shavings
Instructions
1️⃣ Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and line an 8-inch (20cm) cake pan.
2️⃣ Mix the dry ingredients: In a bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
3️⃣ Prepare the wet ingredients: In another bowl, beat together the sugar, brown sugar, oil, eggs, vanilla, and orange zest until smooth.
4️⃣ Combine: Gradually mix the dry ingredients into the wet ingredients, alternating with orange juice and buttermilk. Stir until just combined.
5️⃣ Bake: Pour the batter into the prepared pan and bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
6️⃣ Make the ganache: Heat the heavy cream in a saucepan (do not boil), then pour over the chopped chocolate. Stir until smooth. Mix in the orange zest.
7️⃣ Assemble: Once the cake is cooled, pour the ganache over the top. Garnish with orange slices and chocolate shavings.
