Ingredients
Scale
- 500g beef sirloin or flank steak, thinly sliced
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce
- 2 tablespoons oyster sauce
- 1 tablespoon hoisin sauce
- 1 tablespoon brown sugar
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch
- 1/4 cup water
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
- 1/2 teaspoon sesame oil (optional)
- 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
- 2 spring onions, sliced (for garnish)
- 1 tablespoon sesame seeds (optional, for garnish)
Instructions
- Prepare the sauce: In a small bowl, mix together soy sauce, oyster sauce, hoisin sauce, brown sugar, cornstarch, and water. Stir until smooth and set aside.
- Marinate the beef: Place sliced beef in a bowl, add half of the minced garlic, black pepper, and 1 tablespoon of the sauce mixture. Mix well and let marinate for 15 minutes.
- Sear the beef: Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat. Add the marinated beef in a single layer and sear for 2-3 minutes until browned. Remove and set aside.
- Cook the garlic: In the same pan, add remaining minced garlic and stir-fry for about 30 seconds until fragrant.
- Make the sauce: Pour the remaining sauce mixture into the pan. Stir constantly until it starts to thicken (about 1-2 minutes).
- Combine and finish: Return the beef to the pan, toss well to coat with the sauce. Drizzle with sesame oil if using.
- Serve: Garnish with sliced green onions and sesame seeds. Serve hot over steamed rice or noodles.
Notes
- For extra flavor, add sliced bell peppers or broccoli.
- Adjust the garlic quantity to your preference for a stronger or milder garlic flavor.
- Swap beef for chicken or tofu for variation.
